We are writing this letter to recommend Russ and Melody Hurd as builders. We have known them for just over two years and met them after having had an unpleasant experience with another builder. Following our negative experience, we interviewed several new prospects including the Hurds who were recommended to us because they had built the home next door to our new property, and the owners had a good experience, trusted the Hurds, and were happy with the building experience and their new home. Following a positive interview we also inspected other examples of their work and were impressed with the quality. My wife, Kathy, was especially happy to have Melody Hurd’s professional experience, insight, suggestions, and camaraderie to help her navigate the intricate world of fixtures, tiles, floorings, lighting, etc., the myriad world of decisions that must be dealt with in planning a new home from scratch. We both felt the Hurds gave us trustworthy, friendly, and helpful advice during the building process. They also promised to do their best to see that we were happy with the resulting product, our new home, and they lived up to that promise. During the building process, if we ever had questions, Russ and Melody were accessible and helpful in answering our inquiries as well as following up with any necessary adjustments. After moving into our new home, they were still available to help us get settled and learn the details of caring for our home. They continued to care about our experience and helped out when necessary to make any corrections, including a one year assessment and adjustments to the existing structure. Mel and Russ Hurd are the salt of the Earth… Honest, kind, hardworking, and masters of their trade. We feel blessed to have designed and built our forever home with this husband-and-wife team. After my husband and I purchased our land we knew that we wanted to build a single story home but were ignorant of the building process and where to begin. We searched the internet and found four local builders. After contacting the first three, we weren’t thrilled with the idea of working with any of them. Hurd was fourth on the list. It’s important to recognize the Hurd’s project manager, the incredible Billy Bliss. Billy worked meticulously to ensure the symmetry we designed for was followed through in the field and contributed to reaching the high standard we were striving for. We always hesitated on building a home because of the story's we heard on how stressful it is, and the thing's go wrong. When we finally decided to build our next home we immediately knew Russ, Mel, and Natasha were the ones that we wanted to build it. Our hesitations never became a reality because of them. "We would like to share our building experience and act as a recommendation for your company.  Let us break the experience down into the steps taken: Pre-commitment experience. We started working with three builders.  The other two were quickly eliminated after visiting our lot with Russ.  He listened to our wants and recommended we flip the home end for end that got us our desired full daylight basement (very important to us) and enhanced our view of the valley.  The other builders were only going to get one corner of the basement out of the ground and the garage was going to block most of the view. Home design. We had a floor plan of the home we thought we wanted.  However, after consulting with Mel and Russ we agreed with many of their suggestions and we made quite a few positive changes to our initial design – including: relocation of the basement steps, making the kitchen/dining area larger and flipping the deck and screened porch to take better advantage of the view. Home construction. Russ quoted six months start to finish.  Russ had the home completed in the time frame quoted and in fact had it completed two months before we even wanted to move in.  Our frequent visits and questions/comments during the construction were encouraged by Russ and resulted in a few running changes. Final cost. We’ve always heard that contractors quote low and make it up on the change orders.  We are pleased to say Mel took the time up front to work with us and determining what we wanted and quoted accordingly.  The home came in on budget, no end of construction surprises! Home warranty. After one year in the home we received a call from Mel telling us it was time to do a walk thru to fix anything that needed fixing.  Our response was, we didn’t need to do the exercise.  We didn’t have so much as a nail pop that needed fixing! Would we use your company again, absolutely!  You made the home building experience enjoyable and rewarding.  We would love to do it again!"

After a few failed attempts with other local contractors, we saw Hurd Builders banner at the local high school’s stadium, and decided to contact them for a free consultation. Thankfully, Melody rescued our email from her spam/junk folder, and was eager to meet with us and help design our renovation project. While we didn’t have Hurd build us a new big and fancy dream home, they did, however, freshen up our old house beyond our expectations. Our carport was transformed into a great mudroom and the new spacious 2 car garage put the finishing touches on our home. We had our guard up for what we thought would be the same bad experience we had with our previous builder. Dealing with our previous builder who stated that he was a custom builder and would build a house anyway we wanted it. First of all we never met the builder personally and when it was requested by us and others in the community to meet with him he refused instead we met with a sales representative. Every time we wanted to change or move anything we were told that they could not do this or that. We hired an independent inspector who found several building errors (to include not having the correct support beams in place) things that should have not even passed code. Should we say it was a complete nightmare? Instead it turned out to be the most exciting and educating experience we could have ever hoped for. His exact words to us were “This is rare, they don’t build homes with this type of quality anymore”. "We were lucky to have Hurd Builders Specialty Projects help us out by building an addition on our existing home — a new master suite. One of the first differences we found in dealing with Hurd Builders Specialty Projects was their willingness to work with us in developing our vision and putting our ideas into workable plans. To put this in context, we had originally discussed our initial vision with 3 different contractors. We were frustrated when these prior contractors would provide us with rough and wildly varying estimates, which lacked even the most basic details on what their estimates were based upon on or how they planned to transfer our ideas into actual construction.
